NSW Health's Get Healthy at Work initiative provides a tailored program for workplaces to improve the health environment and habits of their employees. The government department engaged my company Helix and our partner design company to design and implement the website. The project arose from an earlier research work that identified issues with the existing website and outlined a plan to increase engagement.

The primary challenge of the project was to launch the new website in a very short timeframe before a hard deadline when the previous website would be shut down. To achieve this, we employed an agile approach to prioritise distinct pieces of functionality based on requirements at launch and needs after the website was live. Each piece was designed, implemented, tested, and signed off in its entirety.

We ensured that the client was happy with the approach and involved them deeply in the development process. This included fortnightly sprint planning and review meetings, documentation of requirements in Clubhouse, and continual reviews of development builds. It ensured that misalignments were picked up early and corrected to meet the tight timeframes.

I led a team of 4 engineers to complete the frontend and backend build and infrastructure setup. It features interactive graphs, rich surveys, and user interactions through web and email interfaces.

We worked in tandem with the design team to figure out efficient implementations. For example, we researched and evaluated open-source charting libraries based on low-fi design prototypes of interactive graphs. We customised the chosen library with desired colours and styles. With knowledge of the capabilities of the library, we fed the design parameters back to the design team. This ensured that the final graph designs could be implemented with high fidelity.

The website was launched successfully and received multiple signups on the first week. The program has registered over 800 active worksites to date. We received recognition from the wider NSW Health department for effective delivery within a short timeframe which led to engagement with Helix for further projects.
